CROP Walk raised $6,885 for the hungry

This year’s CROP Walk, a cooperative effort to fight world hunger by Miami University Greeks and permanent Oxford area residents, has raised $6,885.

Of that total, 25 percent will be returned for community efforts. Oxford Tallawanda Community Services and the St. Vincent De Paul Society, the two local organizations that receive support from CROP Walk, are expected to receive their checks this spring.

Miami Greek organizations contributed $4,730 of the $6,885 total, according to John Mittermaier, CROP Walk treasurer.

Community walkers, including a group from the West Chester area called Reach Out Lakota, raised the rest during the Sept. 16 walk.

In a decade of walks, begun by the late L. Warren Nelson, more than $77,000 has been raised for hunger causes by Miami’s Greeks and the Oxford community.
