Jobs should not be tough to find for class of 1999 college graduates. Proof of the strength of the job market was revealed by a survey of the record number of employers represented at a fall career fair, sponsored by Miami University's Career Planning and Placement Office (CPPO). The fair attracted 192 companies in search of the next round of Miami graduates scheduled to enter the workforce. The employers represented ranged from Andersen Consulting and Chrysler to Toys 'R Us and the Peace Corps. Based on CPPO surveys conducted at the fair, the demand for grads should continue unfettered, said Joseph Barry, CPPO assistant director.
"Written and verbal communication skills continue to be the top qualities sought in new Miami graduates," Barry said. "Motivation, academic performance and technical ability are the next most sought after traits. Previous work experience and internships remain valuable assets for our students as well." Even though the market demand for jobs is good, the CPPO continues to be utilized at full capacity, Barry said. "The best jobs remain very competitive," he said. "We teach our students to be prepared, focused and aggressive in their job searches, even when the market is as strong as it is now." For additional information, contact Barry at (513) 529-3837. |
