The Women's Studies Research Center at Miami University will sponsor "Gender and Violence: An Interdisciplinary Symposium" Friday, Feb. 26, at Shriver Center. Keynote address for the symposium will be given by Ann Jones, award-winning journalist and author of Next Time She'll Be Dead: Battering and How to Stop It and Women Who Kill, among other books. She is recognized as an authority on women and criminal justice. Gender and violence will be discussed from many viewpoints, including the humanities, social sciences, human service professions and the fine arts. Both historical and theoretical perspectives within feminist research and activism will inform discussions. The symposium is preceded by a film festival 7-9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 25, in 13 Laws Hall. "Hope of Awakening," by Constance Carlisle and "Just Another Four Letter Word: An Interpretive Study of Women and Rape," by Laura Scudiere and Aeryne Hixon, both Miami students, will be shown. The writers/producers will be joined afterward by Berenice Ruhl of Martin University for a discussion. Schedule is as follows: 8 a.m. Registration, Shriver Center lobby.
