Miami hosts College/University recycling conference04/01/1999 |

Miami University will host the second annual College/University Recycling Conference (CURC) from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at the Shriver Center. Presented by the National Recycling Coalition, the conference is open, at a fee, to university and community members. The conference's three tracks accommodate beginners to advanced recyclers. Twelve sessions will be held throughout the day on topics including learning how to evaluate and establish a campus recycling program; paper recycling; participating with government agencies; residence hall recycling programs and dining hall waste prevention programs; and recycling of construction and demolition building materials. Guest speakers include Jerry Powell, editor-in-chief of the national journal, Resource Recycling, who will speak on the future of college/university recycling programs, and Will Ferretti, executive director of the National Recycling Coalition. Representatives from Midwest colleges and universities, various industries and state government agencies also will speak. Registration fees includes lunch, three breaks and parking. Cost for students is $20; university personnel, state and federal agencies and the general public can call for special rates.
