Scheduled to open in January 2009, the 23,000-square-foot learning facility will offer Miami's nationally renowned academic undergraduate and graduate courses and programs, together with work-force development and customized training opportunities for business, industry, school districts and government agencies. According to President David Hodge, the Voice of America Learning Center "offers the best of Miami in one easily accessible location." Miami's nationally ranked Farmer School of Business will offer a professional MBA program in evenings and on weekends designed to meet the needs of working professionals. Miami's School of Education and Allied Professions will offer graduate coursework leading to master's of education in reading, educational psychology and principal certification. A fully equipped instructional media studio at the center will support teachers in the field of educational media design. Miami's Hamilton and Middletown regional campuses will coordinate undergraduate courses, including courses for the bachelor's degree in nursing. The Business and Industry Centers of the regional campuses will combine operations at the VOALC, providing contract training and specialized coursework to meet the needs of regional employers. The new facility can support more than 80 classes per week and includes five classrooms, a 150-seat auditorium/classroom, a seminar room, an instructional media studio and Miami libraries access facilities. Miami also plans for facilities to be available for community events. Miami's alumni association career services will provide resources to alumni job seekers and employers. Included will be opportunities to meet one-on-one with a career adviser, access to Miami's career services network of volunteers and future networking opportunities and events at the center. The total project cost is set at $7.5 million and includes architectural design, engineering, site preparation, construction, furnishing, equipment and landscaping.
