| Jake Hossfeld and Nell Endwhistle during production of "RX," a Miami University student film recently honored with a regional Emmy award. |
"Rx," a completely student produced film, was recognized as one of three Student Production Award winners at the 43rd annual Midwestern Regional Emmy Awards ceremony held June 23 in Columbus. The Emmys are given by the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Jake Hossfeld, director of photography for "Rx" and a 2006 Miami graduate, accepted the award. Also recognized were Stephen Murray, director; Anna Egofske, assistant director; Andy Nielsen, editor; Sarah Allspaw, first camera assistant; and advisers David Sholle and Andy Marko. Murray, Egofske and Nielson are senior mass communication majors; Allspaw is a 2006 Miami graduate. Sholle is assistant professor of mass communication; Marko is a producer for Miami University Television (MUTV).
The film is the second dramatic short narrative MUTV project. "Rx" began in a fall 2005 pre-production seminar taught by Sholle and Marko. Students collaborated on a script, which evolved into "Rx," a short drama based on a day in the life of a pharmacist.
A production seminar in spring 2006, also taught by Sholle and Marko, focused on the production process. The film was shot on Miami's Western campus and edited in summer 2006.
Students received assistance from Ryan Lewis, an independent film director; David Pawsey, an art director from New Zealand; professional videographer Sam Ribbler; Josh Green, a graduate assistant at UCLA; businesses including The Camera Department and Midwest Grip and Lighting; and Miami's departments of physical facilities and housing, dining and guest services, as well as university libraries. The MUTV program is funded by Miami's office of the provost.
Copies of "Rx" are available at King Library and in the mass communication office in Williams Hall.
