The Miami University department of theatre presents “9 Circles”, by Bill Cain, at 8 p.m. Feb. 27-March 2 and at 2 p.m. March 2-3 in Studio 88, Center for Performing Arts. “9 Circles” tells the story of a young and disturbed Daniel Reeves, on trial for his life for war crimes committed during his tour in Iraq. Structured after Dante’s Inferno and based on the true-life story of Private Stephen Dale Green, the play traces the journey of Reeves through the post-traumatic mind of a soldier and his descent into darkness. Playwright Cain garnered the American Theatre Critics’ Association/Steinberg Award in two consecutive years for his last two plays, “Equivocation” and “9 Circles.” In addition to being a playwright, Cain is also a Jesuit priest. The production is directed by Sarah Saddler, second-year graduate student in theatre. A panel discussion, "Americans in Iraq: Understanding the Consequences," will be held prior to the show’s opening at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in Studio 88. Panelists include Staff Sergeant Stefan Endicott and U.S. Marine Leo Anderson along with members of the theatre faculty and Saddler. Tickets, $6 students, $8 seniors and $9 adults, are available at the Miami box office, 529-3200. |
