Reminder of Responsible Computer Use statement and password change policy

IT services reminds the community of two services that impact all faculty, staff and students' login experiences to certain online resources such as myMiami and Niihka. Individuals may choose to take proactive steps to minimize any inconvenience.

A reminder of Miami's online Responsible Use statement regarding computer use may appear on some log-ins. Users will be prompted to click accept it before continuing. You may review the Responsible Use statement, check your current status and accept the statement beforehand by visiting: MiamiOH.edu/responsibleuse.

Starting the week of Feb. 25, anyone who is currently using their default password (mmddssss) or has not changed their password in the past six months will be prompted to do so. You will have 14 days from the time you receive the first alert to change your password, after which time you will be required to change for further access.

As in the past, all individuals using Miami accounts are expected to change their password on a regular basis to maintain security. However, now you have two options in setting your password, with each requiring a different frequency of change.

• Change annually - 10-character password using at least one of each of the following: uppercase letter, lowercase letter, numeral, and special character
  
  
• Change every 180 days - 8-character password using at least one of each of the following: uppercase letter, lowercase letter, and numeral
