Sandra Seefeld is recipient of the 2007 Crossan Hays Curry Distinguished Educator Award. Seefeld, professor of music, retires this month after 30 years of teaching at Miami.
The award recognizes faculty in the School of Fine Arts who have blended creative and scholarly achievements to the advantage of student learning and includes a monetary award. It was made possible by Miami alumni John and Jean Ervasti and honors art professor emeritus Crossan Hays Curry, who was the first recipient in 1995.
Seefeld was presented with the award at the School of Fine Arts Recognition Ceremony held May 6. Comments by students and colleagues who nominated her included: "She plants seeds of creativity in each of us by giving us individual projects that best fit our own needs." "She has had a significant impact on many of her students that has extended beyond their years at Miami." "She is much more than a flute professor. She is a life guide."
Previous recipients include: John Reynolds, architecture and interior design, 2006; Brenda Mitchell, music, 2005; Jim Killy, art, 2004;and Mary Harris, music, 2003.
