Faculty recital Dec. 4: Electronic music and "rare appearance" of the Electromagnetically-Prepared Piano

Miami composition faculty members Per Bloland, assistant professor of technology and music theory, and Jerod Sommerfeldt, visiting assistant professor of theory and composition, will present a recital of their compositions at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in Souers Recital Hall. Bloland and Sommerfeldt compose music in both acoustic and electronic environments.

The performance will include electronics, live instruments, various combinations of the two, video, improvisation and a rare appearance of the Electromagnetically-Prepared Piano, of which Bloland is a co-creator. Guest performers include Stephen Beus, visiting assistant professor of piano, and saxophonist Matthew Swallow, saxophone, master’s student in music performance.
