Glenna Wallace, Chief of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma

Glenna Wallace, Chief of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma, will present "Homelands, Shawnee and Ohio: Past, Present and Future" at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the Shriver Center Heritage Room. Her talk is part of the Lectures in Contemporary Anthropology Indigenous Speaker Series.

Wallace, an educator, was elected chief of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe in 2006, the first woman to hold that position. She was elected to a second term in 2010.

The Shawnee Indians were living in the Ohio Valley as early as the late 1600s. After the Indian Removal Act of 1830 was passed, the Shawnee were forced by the U.S. to give up their land claims in Ohio and were sent to reservations in Oklahoma and Kansas.
