Charlie Coles, retired men’s basketball coach at Miami University, and his wife Delores join the United Way of Oxford and Vicinity as honorary chairs for the 2012 campaign, which launches at Miami Oct. 1.
Delores added, “United Way has allowed us to reconnect with our community in a more meaningful way. We have always loved Oxford and want to continue to make it stronger.” Coles spent 16 seasons at the helm of the men’s basketball program at Miami and served 22 seasons as a head coach, all in the Mid-American Conference. Through his years, Coles instilled in his players the importance of community service as they volunteered for programs such as Big Brothers, Big Sisters, which benefits from United Way funding support. The money raised from this year's campaign will fund 20 agencies that address needs of community residents, from a food pantry to healthcare, to youth, family and senior advocacy services. This year’s goal, $250,000, marks a record high for the United Way of Oxford fund drive. Debbie and Jeff MacDonald, owners of Ace Hardware and 2012 United Way of Oxford and Vicinity campaign chairs, kick off the 2012 campaign at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept.21, at the Oxford Senior Center. |
