Psychologist Hal Herzog will present “Animals, Ethics and the Problem of Moral Consistency” at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in 102 Benton Hall. His talk is part of the Humanities Center’s 2012-2013 Altman program. Herzog is a professor of psychology at Western Carolina University and an award-winning teacher and researcher. His research investigates the complex psychology of our interactions with other species. He studies the psychology of animal activism, attitudes toward the use of animals in biomedical research, effects of pets on human health and psychological well-being and gender differences in the treatment of animals. He is author of the best-selling book Some We Love, Some We Hate, Some We Eat (2010). His research has been widely covered in media including Time, Newsweek, Salon, National Public Radio and many other outlets. The Humanities Center’s 2012-2013 Altman Program, “The Human and the Nonhuman: Exploring the Intersections between Science and the Humanities” is partly designed to foster new conversations on campus between scientists, social scientists and humanists. |
