University Senate action Sept. 10

On Monday, Sept. 10, University Senate heard several reports,including information on employee benefits and updates on Miami's logo and domain name.

University Senate heard reports from Provost Bobby Gempesaw, chair of University Senate,and James Kiper, chair, Executive Committee of University Senate.

Senate received the consent calendar and approved the minutes of the Aug. 27, 2012, Senate meeting. Senate endorsed a new major in biology.

Senate heard the following special reports:

• Benefits Committee Report, Melissa Thomasson, Chair, Benefits Committee, and Dawn Fahner, director of Employee Benefits and Wellness.
  
• Update on Miami logo, branding, and domain name, Deedie Dowdle, associate vice president for university communications and marketing.
  
• Departments of botany and zoology restructuring, John Weigand, process coordinator, and Phyllis Callahan, dean, College of Arts and Science.
