06/21/2012

Hugh Laurie
The Miami University Regionals Artist Series returns this year with performances that include Celtic, South African, bluegrass and American roots music, blues and jazz at the Hamilton and Middletown campuses.

The 2012-2013 season kicks off with Hugh Laurie with the Copper Bottom Band’s homage to the blues at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, in Dave Finkelman Auditorium in Middletown. After playing Dr. House on the medical drama “House” for eight seasons, Laurie released his first album, “Let Them Talk.” It is currently fourth on the Billboard Blues charts and has been in the top ten for 37 weeks.

Performances scheduled for the 2012-2013 Artist Series at Miami Hamilton’s Parrish Auditorium include Riders in the Sky on Nov. 3; Carolina Chocolate Drops on Nov. 19; Rhonda Vincent on March 9; and Wilcox/Werner on April 13.

Artist Series performances at Miami Middletown’s Dave Finkelman Auditorium include Dailey and Vincent on Sept. 22; Arlo Guthrie on Oct. 20; Mary Black on Nov. 14; Ladysmith Black Mambazo on Feb. 13; and Chick Corea on April 21.

Tickets are available online at www.tickets.muohio.edu or by calling (513) 529-3200. Tickets may also be purchased in person from the cashier’s office in Johnston Hall at Miami University Middletown.

Auditorium Renovated

Patrons attending performances in the newly renovated Dave Finkleman Auditorium will enjoy new auditorium seating, new restrooms and a new elevator. The renovation made the venue ADA compliant, according to Michael Mcvey, technical director of the Dave Finkelman Auditorium. Restrooms were more than doubled in size; three different areas now allow accessible seating; and there is wheelchair access to all areas of the building.

“Our seating went from 749 down to 671,” Mcvey said. “The acoustics are still magnificent and the room feels very intimate. Audience members are never more than 120 ft. from the stage. All the seating and interior carpet and non-stage lighting has been replaced as well.”
The auditorium’s roof was also replaced during the 10-month renovation last year.
