05/24/2012

"Dog and Bird" from the "Global Perspectives/Art History at a Glance" exhibition
Three new exhibitions open today and run through July 21 at the Miami University Art Museum: "The 1970s: An Eclectic Art Invasion;" "Talawanda High School Art Show;" and "Global Perspectives/Art History at a Glance."

The 1970s: An Eclectic Art Invasion

Curated by students in assistant professor Pepper Stetler's Capstone Seminar in Art and Architecture History, this exhibition highlights the proliferation of artistic movements and styles that defined the international art world of the 1970s. The exhibition features photographs, prints, paintings, and sculpture by influential artists such as Vito Acconci, Buckminster Fuller, Robert Motherwell, Louise Nevelson, Claes Oldenburg, James Rosenquist, and Frank Stella.

Talawanda High School Art Show

This inaugural annual showing of art produced by high school students is meant to help promote local arts and further develop stronger ties to the public. Each subsequent summer show will highlight a different school within local districts on a rotating basis. This first show is organized with Talawanda High School through the assistance of art teacher, Jim McWilliams. Works include drawing, painting, ceramics and more.

Global Perspectives/Art History at a Glance

As ongoing installations, these exhibitions highlight various cultures, artistic periods and media from the museum’s collection. These works are specifically selected to serve the needs of university courses.
