Miami student receives Best Paper award

05/03/2012

Jun Wang (Miami '11), a first-year master's student in electrical and computer engineering at Miami University, received a Best Paper award at the joint IEEE/Institute of Navigation (ION) Position, Location and Navigation Symposium and annual meeting held April 24-26 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The awards are presented to the lead authors of the best paper in each track. The selection criteria include: technical content; innovation; importance and timeliness of the subject matter; and conciseness, clarity and completeness of the written material.

The paper, “Time-frequency analysis of ionosphere scintillations observed by a GNSS receiver array,” is authored by Wang; Yu Tong (Jade) Morton, Miami professor of electrical and computer engineering; Qihou Zhou, Miami professor of electrical and computer engineering, Frank van Graas, Russ professor of engineering and computer science, Ohio University; and Wouter Pelgrum, assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science, Ohio University.

Wang was an undergraduate at Miami with double majors in electrical engineering and mathematics.

He is also a lead author on another paper presented at the ION Global Navigation Satellite Conference in September 2011. That paper is based on his senior capstone project which applies a simple yet effective way to predict the Russian global navigation satellites orbit, according to Morton, Wang’s senior capstone and graduate thesis adviser.
