University Senate action March 26

Monday March 26, University Senate heard a report from the Budget Taskforce Technical Committee presented by David Ellis, associate vice president for budgeting and analysis.

Senate received items on the consent calendar which included:

• the proposed name change of the School of Fine Arts to the School of Creative Arts;
  
• the Faculty Welfare Committee’s Survey of Clinical and Lecturer Faculty;
  
• revisions to the Miami University Policy and Information Manual, Section 11.1.H, Revision a Major, Minor, Certificate, Emphasis, Concentration, Track, or Focus;
  
• revisions to MUPIM, Section 3.6, Policy Prohibiting Harassment and Discrimination

Faculty may ban the use of cellular telephones and other communication and storage devices during class periods and/or exam periods. This policy is not meant to conflict with reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.
Furthermore, University policy must read the same in all University documents; therefore, the policy as adopted in Miami University Policy and Information Manual, Section 19.6.A, should be stated in the Student Handbook, Section 1.6.

• Six (6) tenured faculty members, at least one (1) of whom shall be a member of University Senate.
  
• One (1) member who is a past recipient of the Benjamin Harrison Medallion, or Distinguished Professor Award, or Distinguished Service Award.
  
• One (1) or more ex officio nonvoting member(s).
  
• The Secretary of University Senate or his or her designee, who shall serve as Committee secretary.
  Additional administrators or staff members shall serve ex officio during consideration of any particular award as the terms of that specific award mandate.
