Steel Band performs with guest artist Gary Gibson

The Miami University Steel Band, directed by Chris Tanner, will present concerts at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31, in Hall Auditorium. Joining the group will be acclaimed steel pan artist and composer Gary Gibson from Seattle, Wash.

The Friday’s concert will feature the full 25-piece steel band, performing original compositions by Gibson and others.

Saturday’s concert will feature an “all-star” pan-jazz combo including Gibson and local jazz artists, with the full Steel band joining the combo at the end of the performance.

Tanner is an associate professor of music and the founder and director of the Miami University Steel Band. The ensemble is one of the most active in the Cincinnati area, performing over twenty times annually in settings ranging from school outreach programs to guest appearances with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets, $7 public and $5 for students and senior citizens, are available at the www.tickets.muohio.edu>box office in Shriver Center.
