"Grand Night: The Big Band Era" March 23-2403/15/2012 |

"Grand Night" returns for its third year, featuring more than 100 vocalists and instrumentalists in an evening of song and dance, showcasing hit songs from artists such as Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Cole Porter. This year’s guest artists include Cincy Brass and pianist Tedrin Lindsay of the opera faculty at the University of Kentucky. Miami student and faculty performers will be featured as part of the Grand Night Ensemble and Grand Night Orchestra. The show is directed by Benjamin Smolder, associate professor of music, and produced by Mari Opatz-Muni, associate professor of music and director of the opera program. Other members of the production team include choreographer Jay Goodlet of the Cincinnati Ballet Company; Nicholas Muni, the former artistic director of Cincinnati opera and associate professor of opera at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music; and Alex Lusht of MindIgnition. “Grand Night” is funded by the Miami opera program and by a grant from the Swayzee Artistic Production Fund. Tickets, $15 for adults, $13 senior citizens and $10 for students/youth, can be purchased at the Miami box office in Shriver Center or 529-3200. Group discounts are also available for groups of ten or more. |
