Twelfth and Race follows a mixed race couple set against the backdrop of race riots in a fictional Midwestern metropolis, Calhoun City, Mo. The story is set against events inspired by the 2001 civil unrest in Cincinnati. “Goodman brilliantly dramatizes the complex workings of the skin game in our supposedly ‘post-racial’ America ... A significant achievement ” said Jeffery Renard Allen, author of Rails under My Back. Goodman was recently interviewed on 91.7 WVXU about the novel. He will give a reading of Twelfth and Race at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, in Leonard Theatre. Goodman’s previous novels include Child of My Hand and In Days of Awe. |
