National Book Award winner Jaimy Gordon to read from work Jan. 19

Novelist and National Book Award winner Jaimy Gordon will read from her work at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in Leonard Theater, Peabody Hall. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow.

Gordon’s fourth novel, Lord of Misrule, won the National Book Award for Fiction in 2010 and was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award. The novel, set at Indian Mound Downs, a fictitious racetrack in West Virginia’s northern panhandle, also won the Tony Ryan Award for the year’s best book about horse racing.

Her previous novels are Bogeywoman, She Drove Without Stopping and Shamp of the City-Solo.

Gordon is professor of English at Western Michigan University.

Her reading is sponsored by Miami's creative writing program.
