The internationally renowned musical group performed on the “Tonight Show” Dec. 19 and then in Disney Hall on New Year’s Eve — one of several repeat New Year’s Eve performances. They also were featured Jan. 1 on “CBS Sunday Morning.” Their Holiday tour included performances at New York City’s Town Hall and Boston’s Berklee Performance Center. Chang began performing with the internationally renowned musical group in 1998 when she was a member of the Oregon Symphony in Portland, Ore., where the group originated. Chang’s husband, Dan Faehnle, a guitarist, also performs with the 12-member group. The group defines itself as “somewhere between a 1930s Cuban dance orchestra, a classical music ensemble, a Brazilian marching street band and Japanese film noir.” “It is so much fun to play with this group,” she said. “The styles are so mixed and eclectic, and each performance is truly a unique experience, partly written, partly off the top of the head.” The group performs on concert stages and with symphony orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, Greece, Turkey, the Middle East, Northern Africa, Australia and New Zealand and North America. Recently, Pink Martini appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” The group released two new albums in November 2011, “1969” and “Retrospective.” |
