The Miami University police department (MUPD) is partnering with CrimeReports.com to provide the Miami community with timely access to on-campus crime incident information online.
The public can access local crime information and a map of crime incidents in near real time on the CrimeReports website. People have the option of signing up for customized email alerts about crime in their community or downloading the CrimeReports iPhone and iPad app, which is available free through the Apple iTunes store.
According to Lieutenant Ben Spilman of the MUPD, the police department previously had crime information available online in a text only format, but the new service offers a visual component to show where crimes occur. The service will cover the jurisdiction of the Miami police department, which includes the Oxford campus and adjoining streets.
“We really hope that through this service, people will be more aware of the types of activities that occur in their communities so they can protect themselves and their property from being victims of crime,” Spilman said.
