Miami University faculty and staff received $23.3 million last year in external grants, contracts and license fees and royalties, according to the just released OARS Annual Report 2011 from the office for the advancement of research and scholarship (OARS).
Of the 269 awards received during fiscal year 2011, research grants accounted for 84 percent. Funding from federal sources accounted for 72 percent, with $16.8 million. Funding from the state of Ohio was 6.5 percent; industry and business funded 11.5 percent.
The largest single source of funding was from the National Science Foundation at $6.7 million; the next largest was from the National Institutes of Health at $3.9 million. Together, they comprise 63 percent of the total federal awards for fiscal year 2011.
The report provides data on the funding of research and scholarly activities by organizational unit, principal investigator and funding source for fiscal year 2011: July 1, 2010, through June 30, 2011. The $23.3 million total for FY 2011 does not include funding for student financial aid.
