Long, who plans to work in an inner city setting following graduation, says her future career combines her two passions -- children and psychology. The award is highly selective and no student from an Ohio college or university has previously won it, according to T. Steuart Watson, chair of Miami's educational psychology department. "We are proud of Tamara and this recognition of her potential for making outstanding contributions to children and education from our national professional organization," he said. Long received the award at the organization's national convention March 28 in New York City. A native of Seattle, she earned her undergraduate degree in 2006 from Seattle University. The scholarship was established by NASP's Education and Research Trust to promote diversity within the profession. "This is an honor not just for Tamara, but for Miami and the school psychology program," said Carine Feyten, dean of Miami's School of Education and Allied Professions. |
