"What the Obamas Reveal about Gender in America"

Vershawn Young, associate professor of African American studies, English and writing, rhetoric and digital media at University of Kentucky, presents "What the Obamas Reveal about Gender in America" 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in 337 Bachelor Hall.

The talk is drawn from Young’s latest book project, "Straight Black Queers: Gender Anxiety and the American Dream," in which he explores the public gender performances of Barack and Michelle Obama, August Wilson and Leanita McClain through the lenses of popular culture and political rhetoric.

The event is sponsored by the English department’s composition and rhetoric forum, black world studies and women, gender and sexuality studies.
