03/01/2011

Christina Schoeler, a senior diplomacy and foreign affairs major at Miami University, has received a Critical Language Scholarship for an Intensive Summer Institute in the Middle East. She is one of 575 students selected for Critical Language Scholarships in 13 languages this summer.

This year 5,200 students applied for the CLS. The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) program covers all costs for students, including travel, room, board, intensive language instruction for seven to 10 weeks and program-sponsored travel within country.

Schoeler will study at one of six Intensive Summer Institutes in Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Morocco or Tunisia.

The Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes is a program of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by the Council of American Overseas Research Centers and the American Councils for International Education. It is part of a U.S. government effort to expand dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages.
