Miami observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 17

Miami University will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a peace march and commemoration program Monday, Jan. 17. The march will begin at 10 a.m., starting at the Uptown Parks in Oxford and ending at Hall Auditorium. The program will begin at 11 a.m. in Hall Auditorium.

Guest speaker Junie Collins-Williams will present “Journey to Peace” during the program. Collins-Williams is the sister of Addie May Collins, one of the four girls killed in the historic attack on the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala., in 1963.

The program will include music from the Oxford Gourd and Drum Ensemble and the Miami University Gospel Singers.

The event is sponsored by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Miami’s office of diversity affairs.
