"Leading the Retirement Communities of Tomorrow" Nov. 3011/22/2010 |
||
|
Prior to his appointment as OPRS Communities president, O'Connor served as that organization’s executive vice-president, overseeing 11 OPRS retirement communities, managing independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing and memory-care services. He also served as the executive director of the Dorothy Love Retirement Community, an OPRS community in Sidney, Ohio. In addition to his duties with OPRS Communities, he is a volunteer surveyor for the esteemed Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. O'Connor received his master's in gerontological studies in 1984. "We are very pleased to have an alum like Dan to speak on a topic of increasing relevance as the first wave of baby-boomers turns 65 in just a couple of months," noted Scripps director Suzanne Kunkel. "Dan is extremely knowledgeable and accomplished in the field of non-profit retirement communities, and his exceptional intelligence, warmth and personal touch are very much in the mold of Doc Cottrell." W. Fred Cottrell taught at Miami from 1930 to 1974 and oversaw the transition of the Scripps Foundation for Population Problems to one of the nation's first and foremost centers of gerontology in 1972, serving as Scripps Gerontology Center’s initial director. The W. Fred Cottrell Distinguished Alumni Award was initiated by Scripps in 1992. Honorees are selected for their scholarship, leadership and humanitarianism in the field of aging. The lecture is free and open to the public. |
