| Deborah Fletcher |
Deborah Fletcher has been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of economics. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida and a master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Florida. She joined the Miami faculty in 2004. Fletcher’s specialization is public economics, with a focus on issues of collective decision-making. One strand of this work explores how the elderly affect spending on publicly provided goods, particularly education. Another strand explores how political candidates optimally allocate campaign resources when they cannot perfectly target their advertisements or other resources to narrow groups of voters. Fletcher’s teaching centers on real-world applications of economic theory at all levels of instruction. She has supervised a variety of original research by undergraduates and graduate students, and was a featured instructor in CELTUA’s Top 25 Podcast Series in the 2009 - 2010 year.
