James Lentini, dean of the School of Fine Arts, has released a new recording by the classical music label Naxos. It features five of his original compositions and performances by Miami music faculty.
"Orchestra Hall Suite," "El Signo del Angel," "Five Pieces for Cello and Piano," "Scenes from Sedona," and "Montage" are his original compositions and feature Miami music faculty Mary Harris, Jackie Davis, Pansy Chang, Harvey Thurmer, and Siok Lian Tan performing some of the chamber works.
"Orchestra Hall Suite" was commissioned by the late Detroit arts patron James Persons, who asked for a work to be written to honor the venerable home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, as well as Paul Ganson, the man instrumental in saving the historic building from destruction. The piece is written as a historical triptych that marks four important eras of Orchestra Hall.
The composer’s notes and the recording are available at ClassicsOnline.
