Top eight speakers compete in showcase

The top eight speakers from Miami University’s Public Expression and Critical Inquiry (COM 135) classes competed in an end-of-semester speech showcase Dec. 9. Michael Rhodes, freshman finance major from Cuyahoga Falls, placed first ($500) for his speech, “Gay Rights (or lack of) in Uganda.”

Other finalists were:

Second Place ($200): Teresa Eigel, sophomore management and organizations major from Galloway, “Single Sex Education.”

Third Place ($100): James Deacon, senior arts management major from Chesterland, “Double Jeopardy.”

Honorable Mention ($25) and Audience Choice Award ($75): Matt McGurgan, sophomore marketing major from Lincolnshire, Ill., “Student Athlete Admissions: No More Monkey Business.”
