Miami recognized for excellent programs

Miami University has received three awards from the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) Mid-America Regional Conference. The Mid-America district includes schools from Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and parts of Missouri and Pennsylvania.

Miami has been acknowledged in each of the three award categories: low budget, mid-budget, and high budget. The awards include:

• Low budget: The 10th Annual Breast Cancer Banquet held by the Shriver Center Program Board and Zeta Tau Alpha won the Best Service Program. This event, originally created by Miami alumna Meghan King Sullivan, focuses on breast cancer awareness and health, and raises money for the Cincinnati Chapter of the Susan G. Koman Foundation.
  
• Mid-budget: Miami Post Secret, presented by Miami AfterDark and Program Board in collaboration with Sigma Tau Delta, and the Miami University bookstore, won the Outstanding Educational Program. Founder of the Post Secret Web site, Frank Warren, spoke to Miami students about his Web site that helps people understand that others feel stresses that they also feel. Miami students submitted and discussed their own secrets that were later displayed in a gallery.
  
• High budget: The Bicentennial Charter Day Ball hosted by Campus Activities Council (CAC) and Program Board won the Outstanding Original Program award. Created by Miami president emeritus Phillip Shriver, the Charter Day Ball is held every three years and takes about 18 months to organize. The Bicentennial Charter Day Ball was the largest student-developed event in Miami’s history.
