University Senate action Nov. 2

President David Hodge addressed University Senate on Monday, Nov. 2. David Creamer, vice president for finance and business services, and Robert Keller, university architect, updated Senate on the status of the bicentennial student center.

Senate also discussed a proposed new section to the Miami University Policy and Information Manual, review of associate professors; and revisions to the Bylaws of University Senate, Section 6.c.1.b, functions of the Athletic Policy Committee, an advisory committee of Senate.

Senate received the consent calendar and with the approval of the Oct. 19, 2009, minutes Senate adopted resolution SR 10‑04.

SR 10-04
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that University Senate adopt codification to the Bylaws of University Senate, Section 6.C.4, Committee Structure of University Senate, Advisory Committees of University Senate, Committee for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching as set forth below:

6.C.4. Committee for the Enhancement of Learning, Teaching, and University Assessment (CELTUA)

Advisory to the Director of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning, Teaching, and University Assessment.

6.C.4.a. The Committee for the Enhancement of Learning, Teaching, and University Assessment shall be composed of:

Seven (7) faculty members, at least one (1) of whom shall be a member of University Senate. No more than two (2) faculty members from any one academic division shall serve simultaneously on the Committee.
Two (2) undergraduate students.
One (1) graduate student.
Two (2) ex officio nonvoting members:
The Director of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning, Teaching, and University Assessment.
The Assistant Vice President for Academic and Institutional Technology Support.

6.C.4.b. The functions of the Committee for the Enhancement of Learning, Teaching, and University Assessment are to serve as a catalyst for the promotion, development, and assessment of outstanding teaching at Miami University; to advise the Director of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning, Teaching, and University Assessment on matters of policy and implementation affecting teaching and assessment at Miami University; to evaluate proposals and applications for awards, grants, and programs administered by the Committee; and to report regularly to University Senate.
SR 10-04 carried by voice vote.

The next meeting of University Senate will be Nov. 16, 3:15 p.m., Room 111, Harrison Hall, Oxford Campus.

Twenty-five members of Faculty Assembly can challenge the resolutions by filing a petition with the Secretary of the University during the ten class days after publication in the e-Report.
