| Hayden Ansinelli honored for research poster. |
Helaine Alessio, chair and professor of kinesiology and health, received the Founder’s Award for extensive service and contributions to the Midwest American College of Sports Medicine. She was honored at the organization’s annual meeting held Oct. 16-17.
Also honored was Hayden Ansinelli, a junior exercise science major, who received an award for the best undergraduate research poster. Ansinelli’s poster, “A Structured Pediatric Rehabilitation Exercise Program Results in Increased Physical Activity and Fitness for Single Ventricle Children,” was based on his undergraduate summer scholars’ research conducted with faculty mentor Randal Claytor, associate professor of kinesiology and health.
Miami students presented ten posters and one oral presentation at the meeting. A group of students also participated in an informal competition, placing third of 15 schools in the “Jeopardy” style contest. The group included Nicole Blaize, graduate student in exercise and health studies, and Kali Noonen and Matt Jolley, both senior exercise science majors.
