Graduate student wins Excellence in Ecology award

10/26/2009

Jenise Bauman, a graduate student in botany at Miami University, won the E. Lucy Braun Award for Excellence in Ecology for her poster presentation at the annual meeting of the Ecological Society of America in August.

Bauman presented a research poster on "Environmental Variables as Predictors for Ectomycorrhizal Species in American Chestnut (Castanea dentata) Mine Reclamation.”

Bauman is advised by Carolyn Keiffer, associate professor of botany at Miami Hamilton, and Nicholas Money, professor of botany.

The award honors E. Lucy Braun, an eminent plant ecologist and one of the charter members of the ESA, who studied and mapped the deciduous forest regions of eastern North America and described them in her classic book, The Deciduous Forests of Eastern North America.
