The Miami University Performing Arts Series and the department of music will hold auditions for "A Grand Night for Singing" Sunday, Nov. 1, in 222 Presser Hall.
Auditions are open to Oxford and Miami community members ages high school and up.
“Grand Night,” a review of some of the most beloved music from American musical theater and film, will be performed April 17. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing an entire selection from the musical theatre repertoire. An accompanist will be available. There will also be a short movement section during the auditions.
An ensemble will be selected to present musical and choreographed numbers with orchestra. The concert will close Miami’s Bicentennial celebration and feature Miami alumni and the Morpheus String Ensemble. Selections will include numbers from “Ragtime,” “The Lion King,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “The Wizard of Oz” and others.
Auditions can be scheduled by signing up for a time on the Opera board located outside Studio 235 in the Center for the Performing Arts or by e-mail requests sent to Ben Smolder, associate professor of music and music director of “Grand Night” at smoldebw@muohio.edu.
