The Miami University Wind Ensemble will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, in Hall Auditorium. Gary A. Speck will conduct, with special guest Robert Ponto, associate professor of conducting and director of bands at the University of Oregon.
Ponto will conduct the second half of the program of pieces by American composers Ron Nelson, John Barnes Chance and Aaron Copland.
The program will also feature “Three Miamian Fanfares” of works composed by Miami’s resident composers — James Sheppard, professor of music, and G. Roger Davis, associate professor of music — in addition to an arrangement composed by Steven Reineke, a 1993 Miami graduate. Reineke is the newly appointed conductor of the New York Pops and associate conductor of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.
The pieces by Sheppard and Davis were commissioned for Miami’s Bicentennial and will also be performed at the “LegacyFest” concert on Oct. 23 at Millett Hall.
Tickets, $3 students and $5 public, are available at the Miami Box Office in Shriver Center, 529-3200 or www.tickets.muohio.edu.
