Colligan series welcomes Kathleen Dalton

09/25/2009

The Michael J. Colligan History Project lecture series at Miami University Hamilton continues with Kathleen Dalton's presentation "John Muir meets Theodore Roosevelt" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, in the Wilks Conference Center. The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in the Wilks atrium.

Dalton, professor of history at Philips Academy in Andover, Mass., is a renowned Roosevelt scholar who will discuss Roosevelt’s relationship with the naturalist John Muir, who founded the Sierra Club and was an early advocate for the preservation of the American wilderness - especially the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California and what are known today as Yosemite and Sequoia national parks.

“Roosevelt and Muir had much in common. Both were avid and hearty outdoorsmen. We are absolutely delighted to have Kathleen Dalton share her insights about two men who were both staunch advocates for the protection and preservation of the great American wilderness,” said Bob Meckley, professor of history and director of the Colligan History Project.
