Zoology grad student wins poster award

Mark Dempsey, a graduate student in zoology at Miami University, placed first in the student poster presentation competition at the Soil Ecology Society/Society of Nematologists conference held in Vermont in July.

Dempsey presented “Effects of Exotic Earthworms on Soil Microbial Community Composition in a Northern Hardwood Forest.” His adviser is Melany Fisk, assistant professor of zoology.

The Soil Ecology Society (SES) is an international organization of researchers, students, environmental professionals and others interested in the advancement and promotion of soil biology and ecology.
