The Howe Center for Writing Excellence and the office of liberal education invite first-year students to enter a composition contest in conjunction with this year's summer reading.
The contest welcomes first-year students to submit projects on ways their school experiences and learning goals align with, differ from, augment, and/or challenge those represented in the 2009 Summer Reading, Taylor Mali's What Learning Leaves.
Students can base their ideas on Mali's convocation talk, the discussion sessions that follow, study questions posted on the summer reading program's Web site (www.units.muohio.edu/srp/), any course work that involves What Learning Leaves or other issues in education, or any ideas you might gather from or contribute to the Facebook site, "Taylor Mali at Miami University." Also, visit Taylor Mali's Web site: www.taylormali.com/index.html. The best submissions will help audiences think in new ways about how Miami's students experience teaching and learning.
For further information and guidelines, please visit the Howe Center for Writing Excellence Web site at www.units.muohio.edu/writingcenter/.
