Professors receive fellowships to conduct research in Jordan

Alysia Fischer, visiting assistant professor in the Center for American and World Cultures, and Jason Rech, assistant professor of geology, have both been awarded Center for American Research Centers Overseas Senior Fellowships for the summer of 2010.

These fellowships support travel to and two months of research at the American Center for Oriental Research in Amman, Jordan. Fischer received the award for her project "Investigating Jordanian Glass: Archaeological and Contemporary", which will combine the study of late Islamic glass material at the site of Dhiban with the study of modern glassblowers in Jordan.

Rech’s project, “Paleohydrology and Climatic Significance of the Mudawwara lake deposits,” will study the potential impact of future climate change on water resources in Jordan.
