Miami University senior R. Davis Mello was awarded the John W. Wade Scholarship to attend Vanderbilt Law School, the highest honor awarded to incoming law school students.
Mello, a double major in political science and interdisciplinary business management from Brentwood, Tenn., will receive full tuition and an annual stipend for each of the three years of law studies.
The Wade Scholarship is awarded to students who possess superior academic records and personal qualities that reflect potential for outstanding contributions to the legal profession.
Mello, a varsity swimmer at Miami who has demonstrated excellence in both academics and athletics, said “I have had a fantastic four years at Miami, and I could not be more pleased with and thankful for the opportunities that this school has provided me.”
Mello also recently received the Interdisciplinary Business Management Award from the Farmer School of Business.
Miami’s pre-law program, established in 2007, provides students interested in pursuing a legal career with a comprehensive set of tools that will help them excel in law school and in the legal arena, according to Yvette Simpson, director of pre-law programs.
