The Delta Beta Chapter of Delta Delta Delta sorority has been found responsible for violating the Miami University Code of Student Conduct, Section 105B Prohibited Use of Alcohol and Section 109, Hazing.
It was reported that on Jan. 29, 2009, active members of Delta Delta Delta sorority “kidnapped” new members from the Delta Delta Delta sorority suite and took them to an off-campus location where they were blindfolded and forced to drink alcohol.
A disciplinary board hearing was conducted in the office of ethics and student conflict resolution on Feb. 16. Delta Delta Delta sorority was found responsible for violations of the hazing policy and the alcohol policy.
The sorority did not appeal the decision.
The following sanctions have been imposed on the sorority:
- Delta Delta Delta sorority is suspended from Miami University through January 1, 2011.
- In order for the chapter to be considered for recognition, the organization must present a comprehensive reorganization plan to the office of ethics and student conflict resolution and the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternal Life.
- Upon recognition, Delta Delta Delta sorority will be placed on disciplinary probation for one year.
- The organization must complete an alcohol education program.
