Hailiang Dong

Hailiang Dong has been promoted to professor of geology. Dong’s research emphasizes the integration of geology and microbiology and focuses on both theoretical and practical aspects of this interdisciplinary field. The overall objective is to understand how and why microorganisms and geological media interact and the impacts of these interactions on geological and environmental processes.

Since receiving tenure in 2006, Dong has published more than 30 research papers and secured approximately $1.6 million in external grants from competitive sources.

Dong was a recipient of a Miami University Distinguished Scholar Award in 2007-08 and the national Marion L. and Chrystie Jackson Mid-Career Clay Scientist Award in 2008. He has served on numerous professional societies and proposal review panels. Currently, he is associate editor of Clays & Clay Minerals and editor of the Clay Minerals Society workshop series.
