Kathleen Knight Abowitz has been promoted to professor of education leadership. Knight Abowitz teaches social foundations of education and philosophy of education courses and her scholarship addresses questions of public life, community, citizenship and democracy in educational contexts.
In 2006, she was recognized for excellence in teaching, research and service as the recipient of the Richard T. Delp Award in the School of Education, Health, and Society.
Knight Abowitz’s scholarship on the public dimensions of charter school policies, citizenship education, educational ethics, and justice in education has been published in leading educational journals read by both educational theorists and practitioners. As the interim director of the Wilks Leadership Institute, Knight Abowitz brings her scholarly interest in citizenship and democracy into work that provides Miami students with opportunities to develop civic leadership knowledge, skills and passions.
