Elisabeth Widom has been promoted to professor of geology. She received her doctorate in 1991 from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Following that, she held two postdoctoral positions, including a Carnegie Fellowship at the Carnegie Institution of Washington (department of terrestrial magnetism) and a National Research Council Fellowship at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Since arriving at Miami in 1997, Widom has developed a teaching program in the area of isotope geochemistry and has built a state-of-the-art clean lab and mass spectrometry facility for related research activities. Her research has been funded by grants from the National Science Foundation and has resulted in publications of papers in international journals.
