Glenn W. Muschert

Glenn W. Muschert has been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of sociology and gerontology. Muschert, a sociologist of social problems, earned a bachelor’s degree in international area studies from Drexel University in 1992. In 2002, he earned his doctorate in sociology from the University of Colorado. After serving for one year on the law and society faculty at Purdue University, he joined the sociology faculty at Miami in 2003.

Muschert’s research focuses on social control through surveillance and the sociological implications of mass media coverage of high profile crimes, such as school shootings and child abductions. His research has appeared in sociology, criminal justice, socio-legal studies and mass media studies journals.
