A new gift of $250,000 from two alumni entrepreneurs will support programs within the Miami University Institute for Entrepreneurship at the Farmer School of Business.
Frederic ('77) and Julie ('85) Holzberger understand the impact that social entrepreneurship activities can have. The couple, who operate Aveda Fredric's Institutes in Cincinnati and Indianapolis, previously owned a highly successful four-state Aveda distributorship. Both businesses have been nationally recognized as models of social and environmental responsibility.
The gift, made to the university's campaign For Love and Honor, will create endowments to support program initiatives in the Thomas C. Page Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and the Center for Social Entrepreneurship. In recognition of the Holzbergers' commitment, a conference room and entrepreneurship resource center in the new Farmer School of Business building will be named in their honor.
"Through this gift, Frederic and Julie Holzberger share more than financial resources with the Farmer School and Institute," said Dean Roger L. Jenkins. "They communicate a vision and a business model that clearly underscore the importance of social and environmental responsibility. The school is fortunate to have them as partners."
This is the second campaign gift the Holzbergers have made to the Center for Social Entrepreneurship. Preparing students to engage in financially sustainable social outreach projects reflects the Holzbergers' personal and professional philosophy: Aveda Fredric's is an active supporter of such endeavors as Habitat for Humanity and has made its own mobile salon, Project Daymaker, available to organizations that help the disadvantaged make a successful transition into the working world.
"Julie and I are proud to contribute this investment to help future entrepreneurial leaders develop a strong sense of social responsibility to give back to this earth and help protect future generations," said Frederic Holzberger. "The need for ethical actions and concern for other people and the environment is underscored by the recent financial crisis brought about by greed and untruthfulness throughout the world markets."
Frederic Holzberger has been involved with the Miami University Institute for Entrepreneurship for several years and currently serves on the Institute for Entrepreneurship's Board of Advisors.
